What are the success rates for IntraLASIK and LASIK at the Lincoln Eye & Laser Institute?
Depending upon the severity of their pre-operative refractive error, 98% of our LASIK patients achieve 20/40 vision or better without their glasses. Only about 5% - 8% will require an enhancement. This statistic is significantly better than the national average. A second enhancement would be needed in less than 0.5% of all patients. 20/40 or better is the vision requirement to obtain an unrestricted drivers license. Some patients may require occasional use of glasses or contact lenses to obtain their best vision. This can be especially true for night driving. Our goal, of course, is to correct your vision to whatever your best-corrected vision was before surgery. However, this cannot be guaranteed. With the new WaveFront guided LASIK the percentage of patients correcting to 20/20 or better increases by approximately 20%. However, not all patients are eligible for WaveFront guided LASIK.
It is important to note that the eye can only have a limited number of enhancement procedures before the cornea becomes too thin. Also, re-lifting the flap increases the risk of flap complications that can result in a poor visual outcome.
